Global Peace Conference - The Hague 2018

Background:

The Global Peace Conference is a preeminent, world-level platform to share best practices and develop collaborative strategies in areas of education, health care, environmental sustainability, community-driven development, and conflict resolution. 

The Global Peace conference advances innovative responses to the challenges of conflict and peace by drawing upon the expertise of government, Inter faith based civil societies partners, community development partners and by involving stakeholders from affected regions.

Grounded in a comprehensive, value based approach that recognizes the fundamental rights as given by United Nations International Human Rights as well as responsibilities of every global citizen, the Global Peace Conference presents a vision for peace and social progress that reflects the highest human aspirations.

We have an opportunity to understand:

1.  UNDERSTANDING AND PREVENTING IDENTITY-BASED CONFLICT

Extremist ideologies are a growing threat to peace in the world. The Global Peace conference is committed to resolving identity-based conflict through emphasis on principles and shared values that embrace the entire human family. Training civilians for emergencies and disasters is a critical need of the time.

2.  BUILDING PEACE THROUGH TRADE AND INVESTMENT

Peace is a precondition of prosperity. Economic activity and investment thrives in an environment of political and social stability. The business community has a vital role to play   in promoting human welfare and fostering peace. Income generation and small industries are crucial to bring peace in the developing countries which not only brings prosperity but also gives security to the global citizens.

3. INTERFAITH PARTNERSHIPS: SHARED VALUES AND PEACE BUILDING 

The twenty-first century faces unprecedented challenges for faith traditions to rise above   sectarian differences and become advocates of human ideals, universal principles and   shared values that can advance lasting peace

4. WOMEN'S ROLES AS LEADERS AND PEACEMAKERS

Women are essential in the quest for effective leadership, and if women and girls are not   empowered through equal access to education and guaranteed equal protection under the law, peace is unlikely to be sustainable

5. YOUTH EMPOWERMENT  THROUGH RESEARCH AND INNOVATION / FAMILY STRENGTHENING

Strengthening families and empowering youth through service learning and entrepreneurial initiative are essential objectives in advancing social cohesion and preparing young people as productive citizens and future leaders

6. MEDIA'S ROLE IN PROMOTING PROSPEROUS AND ETHICAL SOCIETY

The media have a fundamental responsibility in a free society to uphold standards of objective reporting while articulating the essential principles and that foster social cohesion and respect for diversity

7. SUSTAINABLE MODELS OF COMMUNITY-BASED DEVELOPMENT

Rather than a top-down approach driven by experts and outside funding, a new development paradigm gives local community groups control over decisions and resources while acting as informed participants in the development process.

8. CHARACTER AND CREATIVITY: NEW APPROACHES TO EDUCATION

The Global Peace conference hosts a summit of teachers from around the world to explore innovative education models that stress  community and school collaboration to promote quality education.
